VIP Executive Saldanha

This is a very basic hotel, definitely not a 4 star hotel. The positives: large room and washroom, with a tub and a separate shower, 3 large windows that open, clean, quiet, comfortable bed, the location is great. The negatives: some areas are showing wear and tear, the a/c doesn't cool well, there aren't enough electrical outlets, the lobby has a strong fragrance, there is no iron, no plug for the bathtub, the shampoo holder fell off the wall, some of the staff aren't very friendly. My husband could hardly breathe with the heavy fragrances and when we mentioned it to the desk, they could care less.

Stayed at this hotel for several nights in March as a surprise for my wife who hand never been to Portugal before. The reviews were influential as was the descriptio9n byb the hotel as being ba 4 star boutique hotel after much upgrades. Breakfast was particularly referred to nby guests. As a hotel inspector, I travel a lot and stay in 4 star hotels. The room was spacious, clean and a bath and shower with lots of hot water. However, the room was ill designed vand NOT a single available plug to charge my mobile or use my laptop. That should today have qualified as a 4 star status. mI had to get down on my knees to unplug the TV to use a plug. As for breakfast, in the basement with no windows, decidedly 3 star at best with limitations. Nothing to celebrate Portugal except for custard tarts. The breakfast was very basic, limited and not fresh indeed with most items prepared from frozen or from tins; eggs not included here. Reception Staff however were very, very helpful in my requests but reception area is not in my opinion of a typical boutique standard
