Izmir Region Holidays

Includes mandatory fees and taxes
Historic Library of Celsus in Ephesus, Izmir Region, Türkiye, featuring remarkably preserved Roman ruins, ancient architecture, archaeological heritage and UNESCO-listed landmarks.

Izmir region holidays bring together coastline, culture and well-known historic sites, all within easy reach of each other.

A region that covers a bit of everything

The Izmir area works well if you want flexibility. You’ve got a working coastal city, beach resorts and major historic sites all close by. Izmir itself acts as a base, with places like Kusadasi, Cesme and Alacati offering different styles of stay – from straightforward beach breaks to quieter, more design-led towns

Old meets new

Izmir has changed a lot over time, and it shows. Around Konak Square, you’ll find landmarks like the historic clock tower and Yali Mosque, with the busy Kemeralti Market close behind. By contrast, the waterfront promenade feels more modern, with restaurants, cafés and seafront walkways perfect for evening strolls.

Kusadasi and the coast

Kusadasi is one of the main resort areas and a practical choice for a beach holiday. There are several Blue Flag beaches, plus a marina, a good range of restaurants and a lively but manageable nightlife scene. It’s a popular option for families thanks to its straightforward layout, accessible beaches and a wide choice of accommodation.

Historic sites on hand

This part of Turkey is known for its history, and much of it's still well preserved. The ancient city of Ephesus is one of the main highlights, with large-scale ruins including the Library of Celsus and a sizeable amphitheatre. It’s close enough to visit on a daytrip from both Izmir and Kusadasi, making it easy to combine with a beach stay.

Izmir region FAQs

Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport is the main entry point for the region. Transfers to Kusadasi usually take around an hour, while Cesme and Alacati can take closer to 90 minutes depending on traffic. Pre-booked transfers are often the simplest option, but taxis and shuttle buses are also available.

You don’t always need a car if you’re staying in a resort like Kusadasi, where beaches, restaurants and shops are all within walking distance. However, hiring a car can make it easier to visit places like Ephesus, Sirince or smaller coastal areas where public transport is less frequent.

Tipping is common but not excessive. Around 5-10% in restaurants is typical for good service. Some places may include a service charge, so it’s worth checking the bill before adding extra. And, cash tips are usually preferred, especially in smaller restaurants, so remember to carry some cash with you.

Yes, it’s possible to visit independently by taxi, hire car or local transport. That said, guided tours can make things easier, as they typically include transport and help with navigating the site. Visiting early in the day helps avoid the busiest periods.

Modern hotels and larger resorts tend to have good accessibility, but some historic areas can be more challenging. Places like Ephesus have uneven ground and steps, and older town centres may have cobbled streets. It’s worth checking hotel facilities and planning transport in advance if accessibility is a key consideration.
