TRYP by Wyndham Porto Centro Hotel

Shows as 3 star but rooms are starting to show their age. We ended up with twin beds when we had expected queen size when we booked a 6 months prior with a tour group. Disappointing for sure. Dining area was quite decent and lots of food options Comfortable lobby area. Expect to take an Uber to go down to the Douro river and main tourist area .

The stay itself was nice although the hotel is a bit far off from the very historic center of Porto. Staff was nice and helpful, after asking for a heater they provided a very efficient oil radiator which is more than necessary since it’s pretty cold in winter in Porto. I found a Metro Station (Marques) which is around 500 meters by foot. From there we can get a connection to Trindade and further on to the airport. I was happy with my upgraded premium room that actually had a terrace on hoch..due to the cold, I couldn’t hardly use. The neighborhood was kind of sad and had nothing interesting to discover. Walking to the wonderful river is like 2 km, so it’s not that far from the nice spots. Breakfast was satisfactory although I’d welcomed an omelette option or any made to order options but okay. The price was correct but the amount of received Wyndham points is very strange. The hotel tried to find the mistake but nothing. I’m right now contacting Wyndham to see where my missing points are. In general the place is a good option if you don’t mind not being in the tourist worthy part of this wonderful city.

This hotel is almost 2 km up from the River Douro (where most of the action is in Porto) Depending if you are going there (downhill) or going back (uphill) it is a hike. Bear that in mind when booking there. I am fit so I had no problem getting back, though on the 2nd day, it was tough! It is a lovely hotel in a quiet area. My room on the first floor was for wheelchair bound people so it was extra large. It was a large room with a great shower. It had a very good curtain and I had a peaceful nights sleep. The staff at reception were lovely. Why I would not give it a 5 star is simple. The breakfast was chaotic and the staff there simply did not know what was going on. Tables were left with full of plates, a number of items were gone when I arrived just after 9:30am (I admit, it was a Saturday morning) and only one of the coffee machines worked. My advice to anybody is arrive before 9am or after 10am to get good breakfast service and avoid bedlum.
