The staff were exceptionally attentive, friendly, and always willing to help. Unfortunately, the hotel itself was a real disappointment. The rooms are of very poor quality. The shower cubicle was cracked throughout, the shower only worked at about half its normal pressure, and the bathroom was not properly cleaned. There wasn't even a waste bin or a small bag to dispose of rubbish. The air conditioning didn't work, and the towels were very small, old, and worn out. The swimming pool was also disappointing it was little more than a liner placed inside a concrete square, with very poor overall quality. I cannot recommend this hotel considering the price charged. It simply does not offer value for money.
So far, so fantastic

I’m here now … only 24 hours in, but, I thought I’d give my opinion thus far and hope it continues positive for the rest of my week here. I’ve stayed in 6* I’ve stayed in 2*. I complain if I genuinely feel the need, I’m just as quick at complementary comments when they’re deserved. The first thing I’ll say on the back of the previous comment, my experience would not be the same had the pool be closed, I’d have been furious had I not been noticed and expected to accept it. Thankfully for me, it’s open and lovely to swim in. So, I arrived about 9pm last night, absolutely lovely lady on reception who checked me in, gave me information and very polite, then the lovely young man offered to take my bags to my room 206) which had a pool view (I paid for) a balcony and my room is absolutely lovely, spotlessly clean, air con works a treat (no extra charge) bed is very comfy, room and bathroom very spacious shower is a dream , what more can I ask for. Breakfast was amazing, such great choice, food hot, lovely lady behind the counter, staff lovely, I’m 1/2 board, dinner tonight, I got given a menu , I didn’t want a starter, I chose tuna steak for main and cake for after, OMG, food was delicious and hot, I really enjoyed it , cake here is sooo moist, (I wrapped it in my serviette to have tomorrow as I was so full) all the staff have been so so lovely, my goodness, if the rest of the week continues like this, I’ll be back on a heart beat. Speak as I find…. 24 hours in …. 🤞🤞🤞 And they put on the football 👍👏👏👏 … We lost 😢 Now for a few things that could make a difference… Toilets downstairs, one had no toilet paper, (not good when you’re desperate) bins around the hotel are full, plastic bottles etc especially up on the roof terrace, glasses left on tables on floor entrances (ie level 2) were there from about 11 am and still there at 9pm. Well, so far, that’s it 🤷♀️ Bring on the rest of the week 😊
Perfect for our first stay in Santa Maria

Nice a quiet hotel. Very central to shops, bars, restaurants and the AMAZING STUNNING beach! Rooms were cleaned everyday. All staff are super polite and welcoming. I would highly recommend and will be visiting again. No issues with food etc we stayed B & B basis
Can other guests be quiet ?

Good things :The breakfast includes local products and traditional dishes. The facilities like the jacuzzi, pool, and rooftop area are great, and the garden is beautiful. The location is convenient for visiting the city center. The staff members are very friendly and were flexible regarding early check in and late check out. The negative aspects were mainly related to the behavior of other guests. Some families were very loud in common areas and others watched videos without headphones in the morning. This made it difficult to find peace. The hotel should consider installing signs to encourage a quiet environment. Although I did not experience the noise from the nightclub that others mentioned, my room had an unpleasant smell that suggested it was previously a smoking room.
Basic but adequate hotel.

The hotel is basic but adequate. When we stayed, there weren't very many other English tourists so we were definitely in the minority. The reception staff were helpful enough but the waiting staff were distinctly unfriendly. We had a corner room which had a larger balcony than some of the other rooms and it was nice and cool to sit on. Rooms had air con which had seen better days but worked ok and cooled the room. When we arrived (Friday evening) we were missing the TV remote control buttons. We reported to reception and buttons turned up on Monday. To be fair we didn't want to watch the tv but did want to use it for music. The TV in our room had a USB slot so we could listen to music we had brought with us. There was a fridge in our room which worked ok and was suitable for keeping milk in. Again it had probably seen better days. We brought our own kettle, mugs, tea and coffee which was a life saver. Milk was available in the local supermarket (we drink lots of and coffee)! We ate breakfast in the restaurant to begin with (b&b) but then found a nice restaurant in the high street which was more to our taste. On day one when we went to explore we were accosted by a street trader who followed us to the pharmacy (where we were headed for plasters), waited for us and then took us to his "market". Basically a shop of tourist "gifts". He put bracelets on our wrists tightly and then proceeded to try and charge us €50 for a fan and wooden turtle. Obviously we refused but in order to get out of the shop gave him €20 for the 2 bracelets we couldn't remove. After this we didn't engage at all with the many traders who tried to entice us into their shops on a daily basis. There were police regularly patrolling the high street which was reassuring. I'm not sure i would return to this part of cape verde, but might return to an all inclusive gated resort.
