We stayed in the Regina gran hotel for a week in July 2026 and while it has great potential there are major improvements to be made! It definitely did not fulfil expectations of a 4 star hotel nor was it worth the money we paid CHECK IN- check in was slow and reception staff are mostly very unfriendly. No smiles, no welcome, seem like they can’t be bothered. We arrived about 40 minutes before the official time that rooms would be ready but the clerk didn’t tell us we couldn’t get into our room, he instead directed us to our room but when we opened the key pouch we found there was no key in it. A cleaner was in the corridor and said that she was happy for us to access our room as we were keen to drop our suitcases off and get lunch before the restaurant buffet closed. One of our party went down to reception and was told it was too early and when they came back up the cleaner said no I am the supervisor and I say your room is ready, so she kindly let us in with her master key. Also be careful with the tourist tax they charge at check in, ask for a receipt as I paid in full in cash and then was asked at check out for half the amount again as we ‘hadn’t paid enough’ which was clearly untrue! ROOMS- the facilities in our room as we found it were mostly fine, a good sized balcony, nice open shower in the bathroom, air con was fantastic and kept the room cool, beds were very comfortable, however sheets were definitely not the cleanest with marks and stains on them, very little storage in the room no drawers or anything which makes it hard to unpack so something to bear in mind. However five days into our stay we discovered our room was full of ANTS! In both beds, and also in the bathroom. We showed this to the cleaner who told us to go and ask for a change of room immediately. It was so bad that there were ants crawling through all our clothes. When we went to reception and reported this they were very unbothered, made us wait an hour to get a new room key, offered no apologies for the inconvenience or any assistance in moving all our stuff from room to room and when I told them about the clothes and asked if there were any laundry facilities to wash all the clothes that were crawling with ants they just shrugged and said no and offered us a plastic bag to store the affected clothes in. This was simply not good enough and we lost a full day of our stay sorting all this out between moving rooms and taking all the clothes to a local Salou laundrette and back again. FOOD/DRINK- we were all inclusive and paid a considerable amount more for this service however the hotel staff definitely make you feel like a second class citizen in comparison to non all inclusive customers. Food in the restaurant was mostly ok, we liked most of it, selection was poor sometimes and the layout was strange, the bread and fruit were stale some days too, on the first day we got a chicken breast fillet and it was completely raw inside so I mainly stayed away from meat the rest of the time however we were always able to find something and the deserts were nice, however we did find a bug crawling through a croissant one morning at breakfast which was off putting! Cutlery and tables are kept nice and clean however the restaurant staff were very grumpy, never smiled or acknowledged when you said thank you when they lifted the plates away, just snatched everything without a word. All inclusive have wine and beer and soft drinks available in the buffet which was a positive point. The pool bar has snacks available at certain times however all inclusive customers can’t access those between 1-3pm which was a bit awkward as we had to have lunch early or late but it was fine, the snacks they served were actually lovely, toasties, burgers pizza etc with options for kids too, these were probably the best meals we had in the hotel! The drinks at the pool bar and the indoor bar for all inclusive customers are definitely not good enough, I understand not all drinks are inclusive in a package such as premium spirits etc but you couldn’t get a can of Pepsi, just watered down from the machine. They have a cocktail menu and all inclusive customers can’t have certain ones, and all our cocktails were made through a vending machine and were extremely watered down, in comparison to the ones which were made fresh with alcohol and fruit juice for the other customers. However we didn’t mind this too much until one day we ordered a tequila sunrise and it was full of ants, when we gave it back to the bar staff they seemed unbothered and said yes there are ants in the pre made cocktail machine, I asked for them to make me a fresh cocktail instead and it was a whole hoo-ha as they said this wasn’t for all inclusive customers! So for the last few days of our stay we couldn’t access any cocktails because of the ant problem. Bar service can be very slow and al although a few of the staff were pleasant the majority were so so rude all throughout our stay. In the evenings during the entertainment there is table service by the bar staff but again this isn’t for all inclusive customers. Once they approach your table and see your wristband they simply walk away. This is hardly fair! Ice creams were great for the kids and milkshakes too however ice lollies (callipo etc) not included in package, again makes no sense! ENTERTAINMENT- the animation team were great at the hotel and our kids loved the kids club which was available twice daily. Different activities including arts and crafts, pottery and football etc. mini disco in the evenings too was always great fun for the children and then bingo and a show which we had no issue with. Entertainment is quite loud from the rooms if you are pool facing however all over by 11.30pm so it wasn’t an issue for us. A few activities during the day such as archery, pool aerobics etc which were good fun. POOL AREA- the pool area is very cramped and there was the dreaded rush every morning when it opened for sunbeds, sunbeds are stacked up overnight and quite difficult to lift down and organise by yourself and it all becomes a bit of a scuffle every morning. However if you didn’t join the queue it was impossible to secure even one sun lounger throughout the day. Meant to open at 9am but some mornings open earlier, just seemed to be whenever they felt like it! A lot of people seemed to reserve beds and leave them for most of the day unused which seems unfair. Very few parasols round the pool and most were broken. There was a lifeguard on duty but he was absolutely useless; most the of the time he was either not there or scrolling on his phone and paid no attention to the pool. Bar staff sometimes also gave drinks out during the day in glass instead of plastic for use round the pool which is very unsafe. Pool itself was nice, very deep at one end but we enjoyed it and there is a baby pool for smaller children and also an indoor pool but there is an additional charge for this. Don’t bother using the toilet at the pool as it is filthy GENERAL- we had some serious concerns about how things were managed at the hotel, one night for example I went with my daughter to use the toilets in reception and upon entering found that someone had entered the toilets and smeared faeces all over the toilets, handles, walls etc. while I appreciate this was a horrible and isolated act of vandalism and not the fault of the hotel, it was handled so poorly, I ran out of the toilets and went to reception to inform them and the receptionist shrugged and said he already knew and told me to use a different toilet. If they already knew why weren’t the toilets closed off until they could be cleaned? Instead of leaving them open so anyone including children could view this disgusting sight! This put me off using the toilets in reception altogether so any time we needed to go we had to go up to our room. The lifts in the hotel are small and very slow also so bear this in mind if you are on a higher floor and unable to use the stairs. There was no security at all in the hotel, people seemed to just do as they please, people were jumping in the pool overnight etc, also a lot of noise disturbance overnight,no night porter or anything like that, definitely did not feel safe. Unfortunately our experience was not unique as most people we spoke to who were also staying in the hotel had had similar issues with the cleanliness and staff etc which is so disappointing as this hotel has so much potential but is so badly run. One thing I would say is that the cleaning staff were all lovely, probably the only pleasant staff we encountered all throughout our stay (as well as the animation team) , my daughter lost a teddy bear during the room change and reception didn’t want to know but the cleaning staff went out of their way to help and found the lost teddy in the laundry store. We gave them a cash tip as they were just lovely and so helpful. If only the staff in other areas were as helpful! Overall we unfortunately would not stay at this hotel again, they need to have some serious customer service training for their staff and an overhaul of the all inclusive policy and also most importantly to rid the hotel of the ant problem! We have stayed in many hotels in different countries including Spain and indeed Salou but have never had this problem before. There are definitely other hotels available which would offer better value for money
