Rhodes Holidays

Holidays to Rhodes combine long beaches, lively nightlife and authentic Greek cuisine.

A classic Greek island, done properly

Rhodes – also known as Rodos – is one of Greece’s best-known islands. It’s the largest in the Dodecanese group and a solid all-rounder if you want a mix of scenery, history and beach time. This is the Greece many people picture – vine-covered tavernas, long-standing olive groves and whitewashed buildings perched above the sea. What makes Rhodes stand out is the variety. Rhodes Town is packed with Medieval landmarks, Faliraki is known for its lively evenings, and Lindos is home to ancient ruins. Beyond the headline spots, the island is dotted with fishing villages and hillside towns, making it easy to explore at your own pace and find quieter corners along the way.

Coastal views across the South Aegean

Rhodes has a long coastline, with more than 200 kilometres of beaches to choose from – 54 of which hold Blue Flag status. The east coast is mostly sandy, with a steady run of beaches broken up by holiday resorts, while the west coast is more exposed to the wind, which makes it popular for watersports and sunset views. If you prefer something calmer, there are also smaller coves and pebbled bays where it’s easier to avoid the crowds.

Layers of history

Rhodes is a strong choice if you like your holidays with a side of history. The island is home to landmarks spanning thousands of years, from ancient temples and a Byzantine citadel to sites linked to the Second World War. Rhodes Old Town is a highlight – it’s one of the best-preserved Medieval towns in the world and easy to walk around. If classical history is more your thing, the Acropolis in Lindos is well worth adding to your plans, offering both impressive ruins and views over the coast.

Best time to go to Rhodes

The best time to visit Rhodes depends on what you’re looking for. It has around 300 days of sunshine each year and summer temperatures are consistently warm, reaching around 30°C in July and August. For cooler weather and a more relaxed feel, spring and autumn are a good time to visit – these shoulder seasons tend to be quieter and often come with better value on flights and accommodation, which can make a noticeable difference to your overall budget.
